Blog Prompt 9

The theme that I think is most prevalent throughout the third and fourth iterations is The Great Stink.  It is not immediately noticeable that in the third Iteration but by the end of the third and though the fourth The Great Stink is a prevalent topic and major part of the novel.  There are several times the novel points out people being sickly or coughing, having to cover their mouths with cloth to keep from spreading or gaining a ailment or sickness.  Humorously, the area where the machines are kept are extremely well guarded from any sort of smog or aerial debris.  This shows that the government puts the machine at a higher value than its citizens.  The conversation where Mallory offers a cigar, which is against regulation because of the ash that could clog the gears, is extremely humorous and ironic.

The Stink climaxes in the fourth Iteration.  This is scene where Mallory and Hetty are forced inside the stink is so bad.  Mallory notes he cant see 30 feet in front of him.  Even more mentions of people coughing and having a burning sensation in their eyes from the stink and the debris in the air.  This causes all the upper class of London to flee the city because of how bad the stink is.  The stink almost causes people to vomit because of how bad the situation has become.
