The novel The Time Machine has to do with a inventor creates a time machine and launches himself far into the future. This novel is a frame Narrative which gives the reader a sense possible disbelief. Because it is a story told by the only witness, maybe events could be exaggerated. However the novel is necessary as a frame novel. The plot of the novel is that the choices we make have consequences. The Eloi eventually cause their own doom by the way they treat the Morlocks.
The character of Weena, on of the Eloi, is a strange one in the novel. She is different that the other Eloi in that she befriends the time traveler and comes to feel towards him as would a pet or small child. This is different than the other Eloi. They lost interest in the time traveler with in seconds of their initial interest.
Our knowledge of time travel shows that the events that took place in this novel are half possible. The ability to travel forward in time, or rather leap forward, is definitely a possibility with the right equipment. If one were to accelerate the particles that make up the anatomy of their body to the speed of light, one would blink and travel 50 years in time. Although this is not truthfully time travel, one would awake several years into the future. This idea, first shown to me in the novel Ender’s Game, is that at the speed of light ones consciousness would not be able to fully grasp time moving, time would move a lot slower making an hour seem like a second to one traveling at light speed. Also if ones particles were moving at such a rate they would not age, making forward moving into time or rather, out living time, a possibility. However this leave the ability to return to your present time impossible. This is where the line of impossibility is drawn in the novel.
